2009 Q4 Service Pack to be Released on January 7, 2010

PackageService Pack Needed to Correct Submission Bugs

Two bugs have been found in the 2009 Q4 version of the Client Tool which affect the submission of data. Both of these bugs are described on the Known Issues page.

Because of the nature of these two bugs, a mandatory service pack will be released on Thursday, January 6, 2010. After the release of the service pack, the next time you log in to the EPA Host System, you will be prompted to update your Client Tool to 2009 Q4 service pack 1. (If you have not already updated to the 2009 Q4 version of the Client Tool, you will first update to the 2009 Q4 version and then to the 2009 Q4 service pack 1 version.)

Will this only apply to the client tool or will shared database users require a SQL script too? Just wondering if I need to give the SQL guru a head's up.

Thanks for your question as this is an important item to clarify for all of the shared database users.

Although users might consider the Client Tool interface and the Client Tool database as one thing, especially for purposes of updates, the two should be considered as separate items.

This service pack only updates the Client Tool interface. The Client Tool database is not updated by this service pack. Therefore, a SQL script does not need to be run in order to update a shared database.

In general, as much as possible, service packs which update the database are avoided because of the concern which you raised, namely, that for some sources updating the database might not be a trivial process.
